Snowsports play an important part in a child's development
The educational value of term-time trips
is still recognised by many schools across
the country, and they get huge benefits
from travelling at this time of year. Even
the school curriculum underlines the
value of adventure activities - "the
school curriculum should enable pupils to
respond positively to opportunities,
challenges and responsibilities, to
manage risk and to cope with change and
adversity" (Extract from 'Aims for the
School Curriculum', The National
Curriculum, Dept for Education and Skills
& QCA, 1999).

A residential snowsport course offers
many opportunities for environmental
education and awareness.

Valuable contributions can be made to
personal and social development as well
as the acquisition of a physical skill. As
skiing and snowboarding are not difficult
sports to learn, relying on technique
rather than strength or fitness, they can
be enjoyed by those who may have
previously shown little or no enthusiasm
for other sporting activities covered by
the PE curriculum. Snowsport is an
individual, rather than a team, sport and
is accessible to everyone, including those
with disabilities (please check with us
first so that we are aware of any special
requirements.

Snowsports fit well within, and can link to, just about any part of the curriculum, with
planning.

We are happy to provide video evidence for GCSE or AS/A2 level PE (intermediate+
ability only) - just let us know in advance. Please provide a copy of the syllabus and mini
DV tape.

We produce Geography and History Study Packs together with an academic town trail
around the old Roman regional capital, Aosta. We would also be pleased to help with
Duke of Edinburgh or Travel & Tourism courses and can arrange technical evening
lectures, historical/ geographical visits and and work/diary periods after skiing.

There are many arguments for and against snowsport courses being organised during
the school term and, where there is a choice, it is in the students' best interest to travel
when prices are substantially lower, thus making it accessible to more youngsters. In
addition, resorts, accommodation and, most importantly, the slopes are much less
crowded than during the much busier peak Christmas, February half-term and Easter
holiday periods.
